Hey, welcome back Rankers. How you going? I’ve got the webinar this Thursday. Make sure you attend. We’re going to find out a lot of stuff about SEO, the old school SEO. You really shouldn’t be doing it if you’re an e-commerce site, it’s a waste of money, it’s a waste of time. You’re doing content marketing. Why? Have a look at this article. This is from Kevin Indig. Go and have a look at him, on LinkedIn you’ll find this link. Or if you come to the webinar, I’ll give you the links.
No more amateur content
But basically, Kevin’s pointed out that, and rightly so, that given the latest updates from the Google algorithm, your content is going to have to be professionally written. The days of amateur content are gone because it’s just not good enough. And let’s face it, a lot of the SEO content out there it’s not great. I know because we wrote some of it years ago.
Why? Why were we doing content marketing? Well, initially, for us, we thought if we have good content, people will link to us, right? Anyway, it had to do with, we got our wires crossed, and this little magazine here helped us do that because this magazine was held up as the gold standard or the start of content marketing, what we call “content marketing”. I just call it marketing, but let’s call it content marketing for the sake of your argument.
Now, this is a journal put out by the John Deere tractor company back in the early 1900s, and they sent it out to anybody, I don’t know who, maybe people just on their list, I don’t know. But they sent it out, I don’t know if it was free, I think it was free. But you know, it told you about when to plant and rotating crops. And thank you to Trevor Young, who was the first person to bring this to my attention. But here’s the thing, that magazine was sent out to people so that they would come in to the dealership. People weren’t going to the dealership to read The Furrow. Right? That’s not how it works.

So why are we doing content marketing on an e-commerce website, unless it somehow serves the client and sells products? Most cases it doesn’t. There’s exceptions to that, of course, but for most businesses who are trying to do content marketing because they want to get some sort of ranking or whatever from it, stop. There’s better ways to do it and that’s what we’re going to be talking about on Thursday. It’s about optimising the shopper experience, not the search engine. You don’t have access to the search engine, but you can make the shopper experience better, and we’re going to be discussing a lot of the stuff that I learned working in retail 30 years ago, that we’re still not doing on e-commerce sites, and I’m going to discuss a lot of the terrible waste that’s happening in SEO, on e-commerce sites, where they could be just spending that money elsewhere and making a lot more revenue and sales. So please join us, www.stewartmedia.com.au/webinar, this Thursday 11:00 AM. Thanks very much everyone. See you then. Tell your friends, subscribe, share. Thanks. Bye.
