Tip #5 – Build relevant backlinks for better search engine optimization (SEO)
If you are working on SEO to get better page ranking, you might hear a lot about backlinks. A backlink is when another website links back to your site from their site. Not all backlinks are created equal though. Some things to know:
Never buy backlinks
Once upon a time not so long ago, you can actually buy services which promises backlinks back to your website. The problem is that Google’s algorithm may find out about it and ban you. When that happens, it is very difficult to build your website reputation again. Never buy backlinks. Google is on to them.
Where backlinks come from matters – a lot.
The website that is giving you the backlinks makes a huge difference. If it is an old domain name with excellent rankings itself then the backlink counts for more. One good link from an authority domain name and your rankings change more than hundreds of little ones. In other words, the reputation of the website that is linking back to you matters.
The anchor text matters
The anchor text is the words that are used as the link. For example, just then I used “anchor text” as the anchor text. You want this to be relevant to your targeted keywords. The anchor text helps you be optimized for the keywords you are aiming for.
The best way to build quality backlinks is to write amazing quality content and then guest post on the best blogs in your niche. Link exchange can be mutually beneficial to both parties. Remember, backlinks to your OWN content is also really important. Those count too!
